TAKE BACK GALLAUDET! WE DID IT! =)

Kentucky Chapter of GUAA alumni and friends gathered at Jacobs Hall museum at Kentucky School for the Deaf on Wednesday, November 1st to take part in the nationwide celebrating the protest at Gallaudet ending with good news! =)
Archie & Barbie Harris were at Gallaudet a week before homecoming visiting their daughter, Jennifer and participated in the protest. Barbie got this band and left it on until this day, it was finally cut off.
This picture is self-explanatory! YAY! =)
The banner was donated by City Art Signs, THANKS! =) The Harrises are mailing it to their daughter, Jennifer at Gallaudet and she would show the banner and talk about it there before it goes to the Gallaudet archives for historical purposes.

Alumni & friends

Byron Wilson leaves his autograph on the banner.

....and Sandy Johnson does the same thing.

KY Chapter of GUAA President Billy Lange prepares to autograph also.

Read below about the history of the painting above.

The museum has a painting of Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet seen above.

A painting of Laurent Clerc with the banner. The painting is one of only 3 paintings of Laurent Clerc out there! American School for the Deaf has one and we are not sure where the 3rd one is but someone said it might be at the Library of Congress? Gotta find that out!

Autographs on the banner with the painting.

DANVILLE TENT CITY A SUCCESS!!!! =)

YES! It was a success!!!!

On Thursday, October 19, 2006, Not even rain could stop us from rallying to support the ongoing protest at Gallaudet University! We were supposed to have the Tent City rally outside in front of historic Jacobs Hall at Kentucky School for the Deaf but we moved to Thomas Gym. 4 tents were set up on the gym floor. We were entertained with speeches, a song, a poem, and earned $$$$ from food, drinks, & bake sale for FSSA! About 60 people came and everyone had an educational, enjoyable, and delicious time! =)

$222.83 will be sent to FSSA from the Kentucky Chapter of GUAA! WooHoo, thanks to the support from the alumni and friends who came to Danville Tent City! =)

Many, many thanks to alumni and friends who worked hard and made Danville Tent City a reality and a success!!!! =) Many thanks to those who donated goodies for the bake sale! You all are very much appreciated! =)

Christee (Weinbach) Johnson signed a poem that was written by KSD and Gallaudet Alumni, Shannon Kapp after the students were arrested at 6th Avenue entrance area on October 13th.
The Protest at Gallaudet University

The Protest at Gallaudet University,
Flame has been flamed,
You can feel the beat of the people,
Demanded to be heard and seen,
Yelling two demands!
That must be fulfilled.
So many of us,
We want the best of Gallaudet University!!!
Yes, we may be arrested,
Ignored, oppressed or even been lied to.
But our spirit cannot be shattered.
There are so many people
Around the world.
Supporting our protest,
From California to New York,
Even different countries,
As well as Faculty, Staff, Student and Alumni
The protesters may be arrested,
But Administrators forget,
Still, because there are so many people out there supporting,
Our mascot, the Bison!
Bison is meaning of strength and unity.
We are united and expand our strength!
Unity for Gallaudet!
The Spirit lives within us,
That cannot be replaced
Or even removed.
The story lives with us in time without end.
That must be passed to generations to generations.
Representing the true colors inside of Gallaudet.
Our voices will not be erased,
Listen to one voice out there.
Unity for Gallaudet!

-Shannon Kapp
